As with most things in life, moving can be a really exciting life change, or it can be one of the most stressful, negative experiences- it basically comes down to attitude and preparedness. Personally my husband and I love to move, we see it as a time to purge, restart and refresh our lives, and get organized. I know a lot of people loath the moving process, so we’ve compiled some of our best moving hacks for both moving in, and out, of your next home. 1. Conquer your Clothes – I feel like clothes could be the worst part of a move. If you are anything like me, you have a lot of them. Since I hang my clothes the trash bag hack for packing clothes literally saves my life. The great part of this is it allows your clothes to stay organized, clean, and easy to move. Once you get to your new house just re-hang and remove the bag-Done!
2. Pack with Intention. Since you will most likely know what your next home looks like, pack and label knowing where your boxes should go. I actually number rooms so it’s less work (all about simplicity 🙂 ), so 1 might be kitchen, and then all boxes with those items get a Number 1 Label. Do whatever is easiest for you- some people like color tape, or inventory lists on the boxes.
3. The Purge. Moving is the time to throw away all of the excess junk we keep around. Do it before your move, so you have a fresh start in your new home. So many people wait until the next house and then get overwhelmed, not to mention it’s extra effort (and money) to haul that stuff from home to home. The organizational rule is if you haven’t used it in over a year, it’s time to get rid of it. A lot of charities will come to your home and pick home donations, making it even easier to eliminate what you don’t want.
4. Take picture’s of how your Tech is hooked up, so you can reconnect easily. This is a lifesaver, to ensure success I also put all Tech into a plastic labeled bag and attach it to the piece. I hate missing cords and hook-ups so I really make sure this is detailed to prevent stress later on.
5. Wall Damage Before and After. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is your best friend for wall marks and holes. This will actually pull paint off the wall and help disguise any chipped paint or tiny holes. If you have larger holes and fill those, then use your Magic Eraser it’s the same thing
