When I first bought my home I was smitten. So in love with every detail, every room, every square foot! As the years have gone by I’ve started to feel less inspired by the space. I realized that I needed to liven things up a bit! Here are a few changes you can make to your home without breaking the bank!

Paint
As simple as this sounds painting a room can really give a space the feeling of brand new. The color felt too dark and was totally aging the home. I wanted to use a color that brightened up the space and was neutral. We recently discovered Eider White from Sherwin Williams. This color is the most perfect combination of white and grey (pictured above). We had the crown moulding and baseboards painted bright white which really made these details pop.
Outlets
Another easy and budget friendly tip to refresh a space is to change out your outlet covers and vent covers. The outlet covers will cost you pennies on the dollar and the vent covers can range between $10-20 per cover. Very inexpensive for the fresh and clean feeling this gives your home! Over time covers can yellow or gather dust that make them look old and dirty. Brand new covers will transform the room and give an illusion of being brand new.

Update Your Furniture
For our first home, let’s be honest, most of our money goes towards down payment. So naturally all the furniture we have is hand me downs, or whatever we had in our first apartment. When we first bought over half my house was empty! But as we’ve been able to save and plan it’s been so exciting to pick out new pieces and bring the house to life. I try to shop at the outlet store’s for major discounts, but also the style I want- Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, and Restoration Hardware all have outlet’s within driving distance.
Utilize Seasonal Accessories
Every season I like to change out accent furniture and accessories to update the space. I pick very neutral pallet’s for my furniture so those accessories can be easily changed out. Pillows can add a pop of color and dimension to a space, as well as represent a season or holiday theme I want.
Coffee table accessories can easily be changed out too with new books, flowers, paper weights, etc. Have fun with it!
Making these simple changes has really got me excited to spend time in my home again. Let us know if you try any of these tips or would like suggestions on paint colors and home decor.
